Flooding in Front of Island Dogs Bar in Key West
Unfortunately (or fortunately) I missed the huge rain storm and ensuing flood that hit Key West a few days ago.. This picture was taken in front of Island Dogs bar. That river you see is actually Front Street (for those of you who don’t know Key West). Despite the rain, or maybe spurred by it, they partied hard in Key West, but who would expect anything less…
Hello Key West Locals!
I’m looking for recommendations for local restaurants in Key West that are off the beaten path.. Some examples that I know of are Sandy’s, El Siboney, Turtle Kraals, Finnigans Wake & Kims Kuban, but any additional recommendations would be appreciated! By the way, if you’re looking for an awesome fish sandwich while in Key West, both Kims Kuban & Sandy’s are awesome!
Thanks in advance for any restaurant recommendations.
I wanted to share a few articles & news stories on the Dry Tortugas, Florida Keys & Key West:
The article about Fort Jefferson is especially interesting. Personally I’ve not been out there, but I HOPE it’s at the top of the bucket list!

Sailboat in Wreckers Race off Key West FL
The March Key West Wreckers Race was held on Sunday March 31, just off Key West Florida. The reason I know this is because I was lucky to be on the sailboat Blue Ice for the race. I’d like to thank Bruce & Tina for inviting me aboard & showing me one of the best times I’ve had in Key West in a while (and that’s saying a lot)!
The race is based on the days when a ship would run aground on the reef, and the salvage boats or “wreckers” would race out to be the first one to the wreck, to claim salvage rights. It’s a one way race from Key West harbor, out to the edge of the reef about 6 miles out.
If you’re looking for an awesome Key West Sailing Charter, Blue Ice is one that I would highly recommend. Bruce, and his crew are awesome people and you won’t be disappointed.

Key West Police Looking For Bike Thieves
WOW, I can’t take it anymore.. 3 bikes in 3 months (actually 2 bikes & 1 front tire/wheel..). I know bike theft if a major problem in Key West, but this is ridiculous.. As a part time Key West resident, bike theft is the only crime I’ve had perpetrated against me & my family.
I was wondering what the Key West police department is doing about it, so I went down to talk with them. I spoke with an officer and he told me the best (and only) solution that they had was to get the bike serial number to the police so they’ll know it’s mine if they ever find it.. Kind of a lame solution in my mind.. I asked if they’ve done any “Bait Car” type sting operations and they didn’t know, but thought it may be difficult due to budget constraints. They recommended that I talk with the detectives, but I haven’t been able to get through to them yet. I plan to continue to work with the Key West police department to urge and help them to set up some type of sting to catch these asshole bike thieves.
Next time you bike thieves think about stealing my bike, THINK AGAIN, it might just be a trap..
